Sigrid has been involved in debating since 2004 and has been a SpeakSmart trainer and moderator since 2010. As a two-time Estonian Debating Champion, she has been active as a debate coach for many years.

Both from her own experience and as a trainer, Sigrid sees how debating develops not only argumentation skills but also other skills - analytical skills, public speaking, teamwork, etc.

Sigrid holds a Master's degree in Ethnology and Change Management from the University of Tartu. In her professional career, she has managed the Estonian Roundtable for Development Cooperation, the Centre for Applied Anthropology of Estonia and worked as a volunteer in the Middle East, Palestine and Jordan. She has worked as a project manager in the Victim Support and Prevention Services Department of the Social Insurance Board and as a programme manager of the Opinion Festival. Sigrid is currently working as a Programme Manager in the Estonian Refugee Council.

SpeakSmart helped us conduct an initial stakeholder engagement discussion. It was important for us to get feedback from different parties, who previously were not so equally concerned about issues related to LGBT+ people. Our big fear was that the moderator would not be able to create a safe and inclusive discussion for the LGBT+ people present in the discussion, as well as for other participants in the discussion. In cooperation with Sigrid, we managed to create an open and secure environment that allowed input that will be useful to us in the following processes. Sigrid not only met our expectations, but exceeded them.
